I am so excited

I have finally won something, which is a real rarity with me, only happens once in a blue moon or so.
But what is even more exciting is that I have won two things in the last few days. A DVD from Disney, from Samelia's Mum's blog and from Gabi at Bee-Inspired a lovely little hand made Sewing Kit.

Woohooo, if I knew how to put a little person dancing on here I would.

Thanks so much to both of you, The DVD will go to my Grandson who will soon have a little sister and the Sewing Kit, well it is going to be MINE.

Baby Stuff

I am soo pleased how this turned out, I was a little bit worried that I would not get the face looking as nice as it should, but the little bear has turned out so cute. I hand appliqued the bear and her pillow, and just quilted very close to the edge of it, the outside squares all have a "z" through them, thought it fitted with the sleeping.

This is for my new granddaughter. (When she arrives that is)

A Cushion Cover

I found a pattern on the net on doing flying geese in a circle, click here, I really wanted to try it, and I had heaps of black so that became the background, I used scraps (again) as the geese themselves. When it was finished I decided I had to make something out of it, so after digging a bit I found more scraps of the same fabric and got just enough to make the border and the prairie points.

I am happy with it, I used a pale blue heavier than normal thread (sorry no idea what it was there was no label and I have had it forever) as the quilting thread and went 1/4 inch off the ditch.

I really like the pattern, but it is a lot of fiddling and there is a lot of wastage.

Another Baby quilt

I have finished the pink scrap floor quilt for my new arrival, only thing left to do is put a name on.

Here is the back of it. All done in little bits of left over flannellette

And here is the front, the colours are not true in the photo, the outside border is done in purples and yellows and the corner stones ar red.

Caught up

I have finally caught up with all those quilt tops that have been sitting round taking up space in my stash. The last one was finished yesterday. This was an attempt to get rid of my blue scraps, unfortunately it only got rid of the bigger bits, still heaps more in the box.

Still stitchin'

First of all an update on the floor quilt for the new baby, I have all the rows sewn together and three out of the five have the back binding sewn down. At this point I ask myself is it worth not having to quilt it afterwards when I have to sew all those little half inch strips down by hand?
Frustrating !!
I think I will go over them later on with the machine and one of the fancy stitches, this quilt will be washed over and over so I don't want the stitching to come undone.

The front view of it, after a lot of consideration I went for green sashing, also out of the scrap bag, the green one this time.
I tried really hard not to use the same colour twice. I have all the across bits cut ready to go as well.

This quilt has been hanging around for ages, the centre hung on my curtain, here beside me for ages, because I could not decide what came next.

Then when I finally got it completed, the quilting frame was not set up, so it hung around some more, and then when I set up the frame I only set it for two metres, so it would not fit on, finally last week I decided that enough was enough and extended the frame and finished this one off.

My son has claimed this one, but I am waiting for his 20th birthday to give it to him. It is huge, I can hold it off the ground, just if I stand on tiptoe. I have only put thick fleecy fabric on the back of this one, so nice and warm yet fairly light weight.

And last but definitely not least the rest of last years swap blocks from my forum. The photo does not do it justice, the colours are much nicer in real life. This one ended up on my bed last night because it has and is so cold here at the moment.

This is the remaining blocks from last years sampler, I made a lot of these blocks twice, once for my swap partner and once again for me in their colours.

Here is the photo that would not go into the last entry.

Obviously something went wrong, anyway it has magically appeared here, These are all my pins that I use on the frame, and as the frame is packed up, the pins needed to be decorative.

What a mess

Today I finished quilting the last of the 9 quilts that were in the line up, and since then I have taken down the frame and returned my bedroom to a bedroom. But out here where I sit and sew and play on the "Puter" it is a grand old mess.

Starting with my desk, which is also my cutting table, I have a pile of papers that need to be sorted into recycling and keeping, under that is my current pink scrap quilt spread out ready to be joined, and then on top of that I have plonked the Janome 1600 so I can clean it before I put it away. Beside that I have a box full of thread and bobbins also looking to be put away, then a tray of pins that my DD designed into a beautiful yellow flower ( which she says I am not allowed to deconstruct) and then there is a pile of books that are to go to Vinnies.

Beside me is the ironing board, with a pile of ironed green scraps on it that will be the joining bits for the QAYG pink quilt, and beside that is yesterdays finished quilt, that my DS has claimed as his.
This quilt needs binding and then I will take a photo.

Today's finished quilt is behind me on my horn cabinet sort of covering the sewing machine. behind that is the rest of the pile of green bits, that were also ironed, but now need doing again.

Sigh!!!!!!

And tomorrow it is the Dentist..........sigh some more

My Lovely DD said I should add a photo here, so here it is.

Row by Row 2010

Last year Cheryl and I did a monthly Row by Row, I have finally quilted it and made it into a single doona cover.

I have finally done it.

I have had EQ6 and now EQ7 for quite a while, I play with it pretty much daily, but have never totally designed a quilt on it and made it, I have made portions and then made the quilt and then drawn it in EQ but never in the right direction until now.

So here is my original design.

And here is the quilt. The colours are not exact, but it is all there.

Wonder if this means I am now a designer.
(Of Sorts) LOL I am quite proud of myself, and the quilt looks really good in real life, The photography could be better (Robyn) but there was too much shade on the clothes line with the sun behind me.

This is my "Man Quilt" Not sure which "Man" it will go to yet.

Whats Happening here now

My oldest Daughter is having a baby, and I wanted to make a floor quilt for our newest addition. So...... as we know the baby is a girl, pink it is. I got out my pink scrap bag and here is the result, the nine centre blocks are Crazy Patchwork, the outer rows are just on the diagonal. Each block at the moment is 7" square, I will trim them all down to 6 1/2.

The big question at the moment is what colour to join them all with, I have audition brown and blue, but I am still not sure which it should be if either.

Catastrophe

When I finished making the bag below, I decided then and there to make one for me, but in my colours, ( in other words in Blue), So off I went to my fat quarters draw, and .........the rotten mice had got into it and had a party.

I was so upset, anyway to make a long story short 4 days later they are all washed and ironed again. I haven't been game to put them back in the drawers, so they are all sitting on the desk here looking at me.

Photo is of them all on the clothes line.

Needless to say I have not made or even started to make the bag yet.

Another Bag

I have been making another Bag for Craft Quarters . This was such a fun little bag to make. I am pretty sure that I will make myself one of these soon.

The Bag is called Dilly-Dally Daisy and is designed by Sally Giblin.

Still in a slump but.....

I just have no inspiration at the moment, and no inclination to do any sewing either. But I have managed to finish my bed runner/ table runner and get it quilted. The photo is a little washed out for some reason (must be the photographers fault) and I have also done a close up of the sashing, I discovered a use for all those fancy stitches on my machine. I sew the sashing to the back of the quilt and then stitch on the front.

Bed Runner

I had a heaps of Batik bits left over, so when I saw this pattern I just had to try it, it is going to be a runner for the back of a bed, next will be a small black border, and then........not sure yet, I will work it out as I go. Nothing like working it out when I get there, I very rarely use a pattern now a days.

Todays happenings

Our wood shed is full, don't have to worry about winter now, it is that full that the chopping block is outside the door. Jade our youngest poodle is standing guard.

Not much happening

It has been one of those weeks, I have had no inspiration at all in the actual sewing feild, I have however been "playing" with my EQ7 and come up with a few potentials. The first two are for my neice, I havent got the right shades for them yet and the centre will be slightly different, she wants purple. The two bottom ones I am going to try (one day) to make.

Two Dollars worth of quilt

Last year while browsing at Vinnies I found some blue fabric all bits and also some bright yellow, it cost me $2 altogether, so after a little figuring I made it into a quilt. This is for my Poodles, they love getting under something warm at night, and I really don't like sharing with them, so now they have their own.

That is four of the quilts done, I have one more small one and then I will have to extend the frame or get very innovative

New Shop

There is a lovely new shop opened. All sorts of wonderful Fabric. Check it out here It is called Raggedy Station
