Tackling my EQ6

A few years ago for mothers day I bought myself EQ6, My husband told me to buy something I wanted. I have been experimenting with it ever since.
This is what I came up with and except for one minor (and a little unpicking) problem it has turned out just like I planned it. The quilt top is finished ready for the frame, I will post a photo of it when it is all finished. But here is the plan.
This is the wecond quilt that I have made from scratch using EQ.

Out of my Comfort Zone

I have been making a cushion cover, and it is definitely out of my usual colour range, but I am happy with the outcome. Took me a while to decide which greens went with each other, but........ well here it is. The pattern is mine, except for the rose, which I sort of adapted to what I wanted.

Christmas Table Runner

I spent the last few days making a Christmas Table runner for my mother - in - law, this is the outcome. I sort of used a pattern out of Country threads magazine, but I altered it so much i don't think it is recognisable now. I made it out of all my small bits of christmas material, so now i don't think I have enough left to make another Christmas like project.
By the way the whole thing is made on the machine, except for my initials and date on the back. I even sewed the binding by machine with a fancy stitch.

I found a new free stitchery BOM. There is one called "Sweet Nostalgia" starting on 15th September. think I will definitely do this one, it looks cute in the sneak preview. It has taken me quite a while to want to do just stitchery, but I have had quite a bit of practice lately.

Peg Doll

Here is the peg doll made by my daughter Toni, isn't she beautiful. Toni does not have her own blog so I thought I would show her off here.

Sheep again........

Ok I know I said I like them, so I have made another mug cosy, this time without the bottom in it. These sheep are so easy to make.

Caring hearts

When the twins came along last month I was given some caring hearts (Craft Magazine forum) and here is what I made from them and others that I already had. Two large cushion covers/ european pillow cases. These will go to the twins mum to do with as she wishes.

My newest friend

I have been raving on about the quilting frame and have not put up a picture, so here it is.

The quilting Frame.

Last month (july) I bought myself a quilting frame, it is a Happy Jack, and let me say now "I love it" it is fun. I used to put off quilting my tops, hide them away so I did not have to think about it. Now a totally different story, This week I put together two cushion covers from the Caring hearts I have recieved. I quilted both of them yesterday!!! Wow I am so proud of myself. I still have to put backs on the cushions so I will not post pictures just yet. In the weeks since I got my quilting frame I have quilted two of the tops that I had hidden away. Here they are.
The pink /salmon coloured one is from a pattern that I admired ages ago from Barb. It is finally done Barb!!!! I have put a close up Photo of that one in as well.
And the yellow muliticoloured one is one I found in a magazine (can't remember which one) and is made from flannellette.
The quilting is probably not that good, but I am very happy with it and that is all that matters. I will get better at it! And have fun at the same time. So far the only problems I have with the quilting frame is lack of space to put it (it lives at the back of my bed and I have to sort of sit on the bed and wriggle past it to get to the otherside of the bed) and the bobbins run out too quick. Think it might be time some enterprizing person figured out a way to have a reel of cotton thread instead of a tiny bobbin. The pink /salmon quilt took 12 bobbins to complete.

The Sheep again

Last week my daughter was complaining her tea was getting cold because she would leave it sitting around. I just knew I should have joined the Mug Cozy Swap. Any way this is what I came up with, as you can see I used those sheep again. This pattern was in Patchwork and Craft Vol4 No 6 and was designed by Cynthia Martin. The pattern was a wall hanging called Designed by Ewe.



I so love those sheep.








It was very easy to make, I did print off one pattern to make it, but it was designed for a sloping cup and ours are fairly much the same size from top to bottom, so I just wrapped some paper around the cup and did a little snipping and there was my pattern, I added a bottom to mine to so it could not slide up the cup and get in the way of drinking.

Inspiration

This is the quilt I am calling "Inspiration". I made it because of the block I made for this months BOM in the swap I am in, the block looked so nice when finished that I decided to draw it up im my EQ6 and see what it looked like, when I did that I discovered the pinwheel, so after a little redrawing I started, that when I ran out of fabric, so I have ended up with small and big pinwheels and also squares with in squares. The cours are dark green and yellow floral, (the photo is not real good)

On the 9 th of July I got a little pressie or two. Aren't they cute? On the left is Lilly and on the right Lucy.

These are the two last rows for me for this swap. I can hardly wait for my last one to arrive so I can put them together

Seeing Double

Seeing double and sewing double, Two cot quilts finished except for names and some sort of applique on the back, now we wait for them to arrive.
Oh its exciting!
This is my own pattern, and again I was using left over bits from other projects. I needed to make them for either boy or girl, so a bit of every colour went into each. They turned out a little smaller than I would have liked, but other than to attach more borders there was little I could do as I had already quilted them.


It was also my first time at free motion quilting, could have been better, but they will hold together. I have added a close up photo as well, Anyway the main thing is that I am pretty happy with them.
