Batiks

I bought a whole heap of batiks to make and Amish quilt, and here it is, the colours are a bit brighter than they really are, the photo was taken on a really bright day.

The reason for this quilt is that my friend Cheryl and I do something the same each year, Cheryl in her colours, me in mine. This year it was and Amish pattern. This was supposed to take a little longer than two months, but I just could not stop after I started. So now we have to find something else to do for the next ten months.

Those three seams again

I really had to make something out of those three seam blocks, so here is the start, the brown centres were the original blocks, the cream centres are where I joined them up.

I had a little chat with my fellow quilter here where I live (wave to Mary) and I think I have now come up with what will be next. I am going to do a little unsewing and then add a brown border.

The little squares are bias and they have to be sewn down a little round the edge so they look like cathedral windows.

A Cushion Cover

I made a cushion cover out of my three seam block, added a couple of borders to make it a little bigger, made the back out of another three seam block and hey presto a new cushion cover. I took it too the front veranda to take a photo or two and had two poodle come to see what I was doing.

Hello to my new neice

My Niece had a baby girl on the 6th of February, and today I got the official introduction, A lovely postcard with her name, date of birth and her parents names. On the envelope it came in are two stamps, one with a picture of her on it. I wanted to share this, I have never seen anything like it before, and thought it was so cute.

Number three Baby quilt

Well here is Number three, this is made with Beatrix Potter fabric, my design.

I have made all three of these quilts for a friend of mine who is about to become a great grandmother for the first time, we do not know the sex of the baby, so... more than one quilt was called for.

Another Baby quilt

This was number one baby quilt, but got delegated to the back burner when inspiration hit and became number two, it is now done. I want to thank Linda from our Craft Forum, for loaning me the pattern. Thanks Linda, it was easy to do, the hardest part was getting to the quilting.

Experimenting

A couple of days ago while I was blog hopping I came across this block. I instantly had to make it, it is done with just three seams.

I was going to add a link here, but I cant find where I found it (sob) I will try and find it again.

A Day or so Later

I have found the U tube site, but I can't find who it was that directed me there in the first place, so if you want a look see click here

A Pressie for Me.

Today in the mail I got a brown paper pressie, How exciting, it was even more exciting as my daughter was home and immediatly wanted me to unwrap it, so just to tease her a bit I left it for a whole 5 minutes. ..............And here it is.

Thank you so much Barb, it is great.

Barb has done a great job, she has stitched in places and given my lady real earrings.

Visitors in our street

This morning these two fine gentlemen graced our street with their presence, they were straight over the road from our house. Tonight they are still there somewhere, they sound like they are meowing.

Heffalumps maybe

Another Baby Boy Quilt, I have a friend who is soon to be a Great Grandma, and she has asked me to make her some cot quilts. This is number two, it is complete.

Baby Boy Quilt

A Couple of days ago I was blog hopping instead of sewing, and I found this pattern on Quilter in the Pines blog, and I just had to try it. I finished the top this morning, I have been looking at it and trying to decide if it needs something else. The pale blue fabric has little bunnies on it, so I opened up my EQ7 and had a play with putting bunnies in, I am still not sure.

A Cushion Cover

Since Wednesday we have had builders in our house and unfortunately for me they have to walk straight past my spot. So......... no sewing. I am deprived... Today being Friday they finished off early so I was able to get into it again. When I made the "Splendid Hues Quilt" I had some left over bits, so with a little fiddling and trimming I cam up with this cushion, it looks heaps better in real life. (The shiny bit beside it is a reflection of my rotary cutter on my ruler) I made this this afternoon. I put fleecy fabric inside as wadding and backin all in one.

Splendid Hues

Last night I finally got all the way round the quilt I have been working on since Christmas, it went together really well, grew extra quick, and then I got to the mitred corners. Well I dont think I will go into that, but let me just say that they are not as easy as I thought. Hand sewing the binding down took ages, mainly because the back itself is sewn to the prairie points and it is fiddly. Anyway here it is.

I forgot to add that this is a kit available thru Craft Quarters The fabric range is from Willmington prints and the pattern is a free one that comes with the fabric, this quilt is the lap size finished about 73" by 73". There is also a queen size on the pattern sheet.

whats new

Gosh a few days in and already I am not doing well. Let me see........
Tuesday I did no sewing at all, just lots of procastinating. I did buy some new fabric, Batiks.

My friend Cheryl and I are doing an Amish quilt this year and I decided that the batiks were the way to go.

Wednesday I spent ages drawing up leaves for a new baby quilt that is in the works (no photo) and today so far I am cutting out those leaves.

So far so good

Today is the 3rd of January, and I am still managing to produce something, I have made my blocks for the BOM from Our Craft Forum. I nearly didn't make it as I had problems with the second one printing out the wrong size for the paper piecing

2011

I am going to try and write down everything I make this year, so I thought I better get started with what has happened so far.
Yesterday I finished a show quilt for Craft Quarters, I still need to stitch down the backing, but that is handwork, I will put up a photo when I am done.
Today I made a skirt from a moda pattern. I am pretty pleased with it. Love how the colours compliment each other. This is for my oldest Grand daughter Olivia for her birthday, now I just have to wrap it and post it.
